Constantinos Carydis is not only an opera conductor, he has also performed extensively with such major European orchestras as the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, the Symponieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks Munich, the Munich Philharmonic, the Deutsches Sinfonieorchester Berlin, the RSO Vienna, RSO Stuttgart, the Tonhalle-Orchestra Zurich, the Museumsorchester Frankfurt, the Orchestra of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, the Orchestra dell´Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia etc… and made his international debut with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra.
The Carlos Kleiber Prize
This Carlos Kleiber prize is a brand-new prize that honours young conductors and accompanists who have particularly distinguished themselves in Munich’s cultural institutions, just like conductor Carlos Kleiber who passed most of his career in the Bavarian capital. It is also meant to draw attention on extraordinarily gifted young conductors and pianists with strong personality and charisma, recognition and commitment. The new award was officially launched on 3 July 2010, date of the 80th birthday of Carlos Kleiber, by the Friends of Munich’s National Theatre and by the Bavarian State Opera.
This prize comes with a substantial 10,000 euro cheque and is meant to be awarded every two years. The Jury is composed by conductors Kent Nagano and Mariss Jansons, who have been chief conductors in the Bavarian capital, by Nikolaus Bachler (the opera manager) and by Holger Schinköthe (the orchestra manager). The jury was completed by a non-voting honorary committee whose purpose is to advise on the selection of the candidates.
The Prize will be effectively presented to Constantinos Carydis on 4th November. The jury praised him for being “one of the outstanding talents of his generation”.
